Prediction of Internal Circuit and Mechanical-Electrical-Thermal Response of Lithium-Ion Battery Cell with Mechanical-Thermal Coupled Analysis

The lithium-ion battery (LIB) is widely used as an energy storage device for electric vehicles (EV) due to its advantages, such high density and long lifespan. However, LIB EV can be exposed mechanical abuse vehicle collision, which causes thermal runaway extreme deformation. Therefore, it necessary predict the internal short circuit (ISC) of cell under loading conditions analyze mechanical, electrical, responses after ISC. In this paper, starting point ISC predicted using a two-way mechanical-electrical-thermal coupled analysis method. At same time, responses, along with effects area on electrical cell, were analyzed. was defined failure separator. separator’s calculated considering material nonlinearity. Considering indentation test results, finite element method (FEM) could accurately order cylindrical, hemispherical, conical indenters, occurred quickly, large. larger area, greater voltage drop, current, joule heat, higher maximum temperature.
